Analysis: Congress high voltage drama on Hathras tragedy is insult to injury!
10/6/2020 11:33:59 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 6: Even as the nation shares the grief of the “gang-rape” and murder of a woman in Hathras area of Uttar Pradesh, the way opposition Congress is behaving seems to be insult to the collective injury.
From the winter capital region of Jammu to the national capital of New Delhi and even beyond, the Congress is busy “showing concern towards the tragedy.”
But in doing so, the Congress seems to be forgetting that one of the most dreadful rape and murder cases, the Nirbhaya tragedy, shook the nation during the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in 2012.
While numerous rallies and protests are being held even in Jammu to show concern towards the Hathras case, the Congress leaders were never seen carrying out any rallies for Nirbhaya, the woman who was gang-raped on a moving bus in the heart of the country, nor her culprits could be punished that time.
For Jammu city there have been cases where rape victims held press conferences seeking justice and punishment for the alleged culprits, but the Congress leaders remained silent.
In one such case a woman had accused a police official of rape and harassment but the Congress didn’t find the cries of the poor victim worthy of attention because the case wouldn’t seemingly fetch political mileage.
Interestingly, in the recent case, when the Hathras victim was battling for life at a hospital in the national capital for around a fortnight, senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi couldn’t find time to visit the victim.
Ironically, the Gandhis look concerned about the tragic rape incident in the Bharatiya Janta Party ruled UP alone, when actually the Congress-ruled Rajasthan is even worse. Rajasthan has earned the dubious distinction of registering the highest number of rape cases in the country followed by Uttar Pradesh, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2019 data has revealed.
While Rajasthan recorded 5, 997 rape cases, UP comes second with 3,065.
The BJP leaders — central and state — are posting this statistics, on their social media accounts to counter the Congress’ campaign against the UP government over the Hathras incident.
The Congress-BJP bickering apart, there are many questions.
Observers say not once did the Nehru-Gandhi family siblings visit any of the rape victims in their party ruled Rajasthan.
“Support for the Hathras victim is a noble cause which every human will admire but when the concern comes from them (Congress), the sympathy looks more of drama where Bhai-Behan are shedding crocodile tears to gain political mileage by failing to introspect,” said a political observer.
It is pertinent to mention that the Hathras incident has fueled a heated war of words between the BJP and Congress with the right wing party accusing the grand old party of “selective politics over human tragedy.”
While the BJP has landed in soup for its apparent failures on the Hathras incident, the role of Congress looks no impressive either.
