Poonch, Oct 13: The Drug and Food Control Department has allegedly been showing a casual approach towards indiscriminate sale of expiry eatables in the markets in Poonch district putting the health of people in grave danger. Moreover, there is no check over the use of polythene carry bags, which have been banned by the administration and harming environment as well. It has been observed that expiry packaging eatable items are being sold in various markets of the Poonch district but more shockingly this malpractice is going on in Poonch city. “The expired items like chips, cold drinks, biscuits etc. are in circulation, and being sold by the shopkeepers to gullible people for the sake of their monetary benefits,” they alleged further adding that no official or team of the concerned department come for inspection of this malpractice. There is no system in place for looking after it. Even there is indiscriminate use of polythene carry bags which have been banned in municipal areas but in Poonch city majority of business establishments are using polythene bags and moreover the concerned departments including PCB, MC have not been paying attention towards this menace. The local residents appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take cognizance of the matter and urged him to direct the concerned departments. |
