POONCH, Oct 22: The centrally sponsored scheme of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has been virtually being misused by the department in order to fill personal coffers of the officials in Poonch district.
Sources told Early Times that huge corruption is being done through this scheme by the department, which tender works but project is never completed and the payments are made by the department., which leads to poor quality of work on the ground and at many occasion s already fixedwork is abandoned midway by the contactors but payments are cleared," they alleged.
It has been seen that officials of PMGSY have adopted a modus operandi of provoking locals to raise protest as soon as the work of any road is started due to which work has to be stopped but on paper work is shown completed, they added. They further said that the same practice is being adopted across the district, the officials have failed the scheme which was purely meant for the rural areas to provide better connectivity but fact of the matter is that some officials have made this department for their personal benefit.
When contacted, ADC Poonch Basharat, said that he would take note of the issue and will verify the fact by scrutinizing the papers regarding road projects under PMGSY and appropriate action will be taken if any discrepancy is found. |
