Short-term course on virtual lab starts at Govt Polytechnic Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 22: A two week online short term course on virtual lab started today at Government Polytechnic College Jammu in collaboration with NSS unit of IIT Jammu. The online course was inaugurated today by Sajad Hussain Ganaie, Director Skill Development Department, J&K. Speaking on the occasion, Sajad Hussain Ganaie, appreciated the initiative of institute to provide virtual platform to students to connect with laboratories in current situation and emphasized on the need of carrying out practical work even though on a virtual mode to make students aware of the various experiment along with the online theory classes. Er. Arun Bangotra, Principal, Govt. Polytechnic Jammu welcome all the participants and asserted the need of remote access to lab work in various discipline in current pandemic situation for students for better understanding of engineering subjects. He also applauded the effort of the NSS unit of the institute in reaching out to the NSS unit of IIT Jammu and to start the virtual lab course for students. In this two weeks the students of Civil, Mechanical and Automobile Engineering will perform practicals on web based tool. The various experiments are designed as simulations or remote triggered wherein the students can connect to real equipments using the web. The session was coordinated by Dr. Suchismita Roy, Visiting Faculty and PO NSS at IIT Jammu while the session was coordinated by Mr. Ajay Thapa, Lecturer-I, PO NSS from Government Polytechnic Jammu. The entire program was done under the mentorship of Dr. Sahil Kalra, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engg Department, IIT Jammu. The course Instructor for the session were Abhishek and Nitin, NSS members of IIT Jammu. The program was facilitated by Jeyoti Kaul, UBA Assistant and NSS Out-reach In-Charge at IIT Jammu while the program facilitation was done by Shokat Ali, Navdeep Sharma and Akash Dusgotra, NSS Member at Government Polytechnic Jammu. More than 100 students from various branches of the institute enrolled for the session and performed live experiments on virtual platform and took various readings by changing various variables and parameters. The sessions even included an open question answer section being answered directly by the Course Instructors. The entire session was carried out on google platform and parallelly livestreamed on the You Tube. The session was attended by HODs, faculty members and various students of institute. |
