Budgam villagers accuse KPDCL of diverting power to Charar-I-Sharief receiving station | Say they are paying for sins never committed by them | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 9: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) may have issued a curtailment schedule of power for the Kashmir valley, but the residents of many villages in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district are up in arms alleging that they are supplied power for few hours in a day. Residents of these villages called up Early Times and voiced concern over the erratic power supply in their respective areas. They said the power supply is limited to few hours with the same remaining off for most of the time in a day. They said that they are facing tremendous hardships in the absence of proper power supply. The residents said that Jawalapora, Nasrullahpora and Sholipora feeders of the Budgam receiving station are the worst hit feeders with the consumers feeling the heat during the course of day. They said that the situation is relatively better in other feeders of the district even though minor issues are there as well. “Villages like Jawalapora, Sholipora, Sandipora, Hillmission, Juhama, Waterwani, Patlibagh, Heedora, Nasrullahpora and many others are the worst hit. We are facing huge power outages for the past so many days and there is no relief in store for us. The concerned authorities are bullying us without providing any solution whatsoever,” said the residents. The residents alleged that the power supply being fed to them through the Budgam receiving station has been diverted with the same being supplied to the consumers of Charar-I-Sharief receiving station. They said that since Charar-I-Sharief receiving station has developed snag the residents of that area are being provided from the Budgam receiving station. “It is highly unfortunate that we are being forced to pay for sins that we never committed. How prudent and justifiable it is to provide power supply to Charar-I-Sharief receiving station consumers at the cost of eating into our interests. This needs to be probed but there is nobody to listen to us,” said the residents. Chief Engineer (Distribution) KPDCL Aijaz Ahmad Dar told Early Times that complaints of the people are genuine to some extent adding that the situation is not as bad as being projected by the locals. He said the issue would be resolved in a week’s time adding that the Corporation is on the job to provide relief to the people. “Basically following the breakdown of Pampore grid station we had to shift some of the areas being fed power from this grid station to the Budgam receiving station. We are on the job and I believe that the problem would be resolved in a week’s time. People sometimes blow things out of proportion and it is not true that power supply is erratic,” said the Chief Engineer (Distribution) KPDCL.
