Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Security forces continued Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) for the second day on Thursday in south Kashmir district of Shopian, where reports were received about the presence of militants in the wee hours of Wednesday, official sources said. They said on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO at village Turkawangam in Shopian in the wee hours of Wednesday. All roads leading to the village and some adjoining areas were closed for any traffic and pedestrian movement. All exit points were also sealed, they said adding house-to-house searches were conducted. However, no contact was established with the militants, they said adding later the operation was halted last night due to darkness. The operation was launched again with the first light this morning, they said adding further details are awaited. Sources said that due to severe cold in the upper reaches, where snowfall is predicted from tomorrow, militants hiding in forests have come down in the villages, where security forces are conducting CASOs after receiving intelligence inputs. |
