DDC elections: After Congress join Alliance, PDP likely to be sidelined | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 12: Notwithstanding unity shown by Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is likely to be sidelined after Congress announced to jointly contest District Developmental Councils (DDCs) elections with Alliance. Instead of convening decision to the PAGD leadership, Congress high command has reportedly convened the same only to the National Conference top brass -which is a clear indication that party (Congress high command) is not ready to take PDP on the board. Highly placed sources said that Congress leadership has taken the decision to join hands with Alliance only after National Conference leadership assured that no controversial statement will be given by the leaders during electioneering. “Despite announcing to contest elections jointly the NC leadership has no faith on PDP -which is arch rival of the party in Kashmir Valley and some parts of Jammu province”, sources said and added that National Conference leadership was mounting pressure on Congress to join the Alliance to give direct fight to BJP and J&K Apni Party. Sources said that J&K Congress was also desperately looking for an opportunity to join opposition’s group to take on BJP in general and J&K Apni Party in particular. “Most of the senior Congress leadership from Jammu province have already joined Apni Party so Congress is more worried over growing influence of Apni Party instead of BJP”, sources said. |
