Health Deptt messes up COVID-19 management in Udhampur | | | Rajesh Tandon
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 12: The Health Department has come under severe criticism for its COVID-19 management in Udhampur district. According to the details available with Early Times people moving from Srinagar to Jammu are being stopped at Nashri tunnel and forced to divert their vehicles to Kud to get the COVID-19 test done. “The arbitrary decision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Udhampur has triggered resentment among the people, truck drivers and other commuters. It’s sheer harassment,” people said. Many people, who were not allowed to proceed towards Jammu and were stranded on the highway, staged a protest on Thursday against the alleged harassment. “We are not averse to the COVID-19 test but there is no arrangement to conduct tests at Nashri tunnel. We were told that we will have to go to Kud for a test. The department should make arrangements at the tunnel where we have been stopped,” they said. They further said that earlier there was a testing point at Shatani Nallah but no tests are done there now. “Police have been stopping vehicles bearing Kashmir number while Jammu registration number vehicles were allowed to pass from Nashri tunnel. If the department has to conduct the test then it should divert the vehicles from Patnitop but they allowed these vehicles to cross the tunnel and then asked the commuters to go to Kud for a test, which is total injustice,’’ they alleged. Irate passengers, drivers raised slogans against CMO Udhampur, District Administration. Despite repeated attempts, the concerned official could not be contacted for his statement. |
