JAMMU, Nov 20: Hitting out at Power Development Department (PDD) for cutting off electricity connections of those who are not paying electricity bills, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) expressed resentment against the government for not extending depositing date of installments of JKPDD Amnesty Scheme amidst this coronavirus pandemic. In a statement issued here today, Rajiv Mahajan, Convener UDA, said that the Amnesty Scheme was announced by the Power Development Department (PDD) in 2020. Mahajan further said that due to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and consequent lockdowns, people from all sections of society are facing acute financial crisis. Instead of showing sympathy with the people, the PDD has started cutting electricity connections in Jammu. “Unfortunately, COVID-19 outbreak has spread across the globe as well to the UT of J&K. The pandemic has caused mass disruptions to the nation’s economy, its trade, industry and the lives of citizens. There is no industry or sector of the economy that has been left unaffected by this wave,” he said. Mahajan reminded the government that there are thousands of teachers, daily wagers, casual workers and contractual workers who are not getting their salaries on time. Besides, there are thousands of government contractors and suppliers who are also not getting their payments for their respective government departments. |
