Heaps of garbage emanates stink, residents demand action
Scattered garbage at BB block of Gandhi Nagar creates nuisance
12/8/2020 11:42:32 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 8: The unattended garbage at BB block of Gandhi Nagar area speaks volume of casual approach of the concerned authority, which never took serious action to resolve the issue permanently. The garbage remains scattered all the day and has turned the area virtually into a garbage dumping yard, making it difficult for the residents living nearby.
The residents alleged that this point has been made a permanent dumping yard. “The garbage from around 3-4 blocks of Gandhi Nagar, is dumped here as the garbage bins which were installed in other blocks were lifted due to influence of the locals residents and now all garbage from these areas is thrown at this point,” alleged GS Modi, local resident of BB block Gandhi Nagar.
He further said that huge piles of garbage around the garbage bin emanate foul smell all the day, which makes it unbearable for them to breathe in. “Stray animals can be seen eating garbage and the harmful polythene carry bags, which again expose the poor administration of authority to control on stray animals, which are vulnerable,” he said.
He further maintained that the sanitary workers deployed in Gandhi Nagar area, collect garbage from the households of adjoining blocks and throw them here.
The Garbage lifting vehicle visits here but as soon as it clears the trash and within a few hours again it becomes full of garbage.
“We had highlighted the issue through the media around 7-8 months ago and authority had taken action but after some time the same situation has appeared. We have elderly people at home, who cannot sit outside the house due to foul smell. Due to this garbage, we have been facing the problem of unlimited flies and mosquitoes in our house.
Despite a number of complaints, no action has been taken to get rid of this problem,” he said.
