Road constructed by RDD in Sunderbani turns pitiable in no time, PMGSY all set to follow suit

Early Times Report
SUNDERBANI, Dec 10: The locals of this tehsil in Rajouri district are perplexed over the scheme of things as the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) department has floated tenders for carrying out a work that was already carried out by some other department.
Sources told Early Times that some time back the Rural Development Department (RDD) constructed a road spread over a length of around five kilometers. In no time the condition of road turned out to be pitiable with the people suffering at the end of the day.
"The blacktopping of the road caved in like anything in no time and the villagers had to suffer hardships on daily basis. The basic reason for the dilapidated condition of road is that sunshine seldom reaches it and the thickness of the blacktopping was very less," said sources.
Sources said that since the road goes through the forest area it is important that the blacktopping is thick and even if the sunshine does not reach it still then there is no problem. They said that blacktopping should be of standard thickness so that the money does not go waste.
"The cost of the project is around 70 lakhs and there are chances that the money would go waste as the PMGSY is contemplating to construct the road with 20 mm thickness of blacktopping. It is important that the thickness of road is 75 mm so that it withstands the vagaries of weather especially season of rains," said sources.
Commissioner Secretary, Public Works Department Shailender Kumar said that the department would hold a probe in the matter in case it is proved that wrong has been done in the construction of road.
