Court rejects bail in NDPS | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 12: Principal Sessions Judge Reasi Kamlesh Pandit rejected the bail applications of Chattar Singh and Puran Singh who were allegedly involved in NDPS Act. Police said that on 8-4-2020 information was received through reliable sources at Police Station Reasi about cultivation of Poppy Opium by some persons in their different chunks of land at Lamsoora without any permission. On this information, case under FIR No.37/2020 for offences u/s:8/18/29 NDPS Act came to be registered and investigation was set into motion. During investigation, I.O along with concerned revenue authorities, officials and Sarpanch as well as other local persons visited the spot and found Poppy Opium cultivated in lands comprising of accused persons namely Puran Singh measuring 2 Kanals 12 Marlas (830.9 Sq meters) and Chattar Singh masuring 1 Kanal 7 Marlas (431.4 Sq. meters). The police recovered 2077 Kg Opium Poppy plants from the field of Punjab Singh (father of accused Puran Singh) and 1078 Kg from the field of Sansar Chand (father of accused Chattar Singh), out of which specimen sample was sent to FSL for chemical examination. Report of same was obtained which substantiates existence of narcotic material. The Principal Sessions Judge Reasi observed that illegal trafficking and trade in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances has posed potential threat to the whole society as it is eating the very vitals of the society and the menace of traffickers is spreading its tentacles to every nook and corner of the U.T of Jammu & Kashmir which cannot be ignored. The release of accused persons at this stage will definitely have its adverse affect on the trial. Consequently bail plea of accused/applicants was rejected.
