DDC polls nearing completion, PAGD in mess | | | Early Times Report jammu, Dec 12: As the five phases of the ongoing District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been completed, the mess within the Peoples' Democratic Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD)-an amalgam of Kashmir centric parties-is clearly visible. According to the analysts final three phases of the DDC polls are important as these could prove decisive. "The PAGD contesting these elections as a single entity has not helped its cause. At many places the PAGD candidates are facing the contestants from the parties that are a part of the alliance," said, an analyst. On Saturday senior Congress leader from Jammu region Ravinder Sharma accused National Conference of violating seat sharing agreement in Rajouri district. The analyst said that since the day DDC polls have commenced sharp differences have come to fore among the alliance partners. "In Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political formations have also blamed the National Conference of walking away with Lion's share. At many places the PAGD candidate faced a stiff competition from their own people," the analyst added. An observer said that "all is not well" within the PAGD and this could lead to a "bigger crisis" in the near future. "We can't predict who will win these DDC elections but one thing looks sure that if the alliance partners are unable to sort out their differences the PAGD could cripple even before the DDC polls end," the observer claimed. He said that the voices within the PAGD are becoming shriller to contest the next elections individually. "If the PAGD leaders are unable to keep their flock together they will find it very hard to put up a real fight in any democratic exercise which will be held in the near future." He said, "Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will also be held after the delimitation exercise is completed. At that point of time Jammu and Kashmir will have equal number of assembly seats and if the Valley based parties fail to put up a collective fight they will find it hard to make a comeback. It seems that these parties have lost the battle even before it has commenced." |
