Shakti Nagar area faces sanitation problems | Despite complaints, no action taken to lift garbage | | RAJESH TANDON EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 11: The tall claims of authorities to ensure sanitation within municipal limits has fallen flat at Shakti Nagar area near Power Station where scattered and unattended garbage has created a huge problem for the local residents. The residents of Shakti Nagar near Power Station and JDA land of Ward No. 39 alleged that there is not facility provided by the corporation for lifting garbage regularly. Even no garbage bin has been installed in the locality due to which people have no option but to throw garbage on the roadside, which remained unattended for weeks. “We had written a letter to Mayor nearly 5-6 months ago demanding lifting of garbage from the area but no action was taken. Even we met with the Mayor many times regarding this issue yet no redressal was done despite assurances,” they alleged. They further maintained that what to talk of other facilities even there was no proper lane in their area and they got it constructed from their own expense. “We are facing huge problems due to insanitation. Earlier there was a garbage bin installed here and sanitary workers used to lift it once a week but later the same was lifted now garbage can be seen scattered on the road emanating foul smells and making it difficult for us to breathe. We have also seen snakes and mongoose wandering around this garbage heap posing threat to the lives of locals,” they alleged.
