Killing of Babar Qadri: Terror groups operating 'freely' from jails | Orders to kill Qadri were issued from Srinagar Central jail | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 17: Arrest of three detained persons from Srinagar jail has exposed tall claims of the authorities to make jails free from the influence of terror groups. Police have achieved a big breakthrough in the gruesome killing of Babar Qadri but this incident has authenticated the allegations that terror groups are operating freely from Srinagar Central jail with the alleged connivance of some officials. Babar Qadri was shot dead on September 24 at his residence in Hawal area of Srinagar by two masked men who entered into his residence as clients with files in their hands. They told Qadri that they had to discuss some accident related case but fired at this head with pistols. ‘Orders’ to kill Babar Qadri were issued from Srinagar Central Jail and this evil design was accomplished by three terrorists namely Shahid Shafi Mir of Khanyar, Zahid Farooq Khan of Nowhatta and Asif Bhat of Rehmania Colony in Srinagar. This is not the first incident when terrorists have issued ‘orders’ to kill peace loving citizens from jails. It is widely alleged that with the connivance of some officials terror groups are operating freely from jails. Earlier in the month of April this year police had seized mobile phones and SIM cards from three inmates of the high-security Kot Bhalwal jail here during a surprise search operation. Of the three inmates from whom the mobile phones and SIM cards were seized, one was top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander Abdul Rehman Mughal of Pakistan. • In 1999, nearly a dozen Pakistani terrorists had dug 100 ft underground tunnel in Kot Bhawal jail from their barracks to make good their escape, but they were caught by jail officials when they were hardly four or five feet away from freedom. • In January 2019, in a similar raid, police had recovered mobile phones, sharp-edged weapons and deep freezers from Kot Bhalwal jail. The high-security prison, where the UN-designated terrorist, Masood Azhar, was once detained, has over 500 prisoners including Pakistani and local terrorists. • In February 2018, the Centre had asked the J&K government to fully review the security measures inside jails and transportation of inmates after a Pakistan terrorist, Naved Jatt, who was subsequently killed in an encounter with security forces, managed to escape. |
