New Parliament building - A symbol of self-reliant India
12/18/2020 11:44:58 PM

Prof. Vivek Singh

India is the largest democracy in the world. The current Parliament building is around 100 year old. The population of the country was less than 30 crore in 1927 and today the population of the country is 140 crore. The time and situation have changed completely. The present Parliament building is not able to meet today's parliamentary needs.
The new Parliament building will make the concept of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat come true. In view of the increasing work of Parliament, the need for a new Parliament building was there. A grand Bhumi Pujan of the new Parliament building was completed with Vedic chants by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Subsequently the Sarvadharma prayer meeting was organized. The present Parliament building was built during the British period. 93 years have passed for the present Parliament building. The construction of the present Parliament building started on 12 February 1921 and it took 6 years to construct. The present Parliament building was completed on 18 January 1927. The inauguration took place by the hands of the then Governor General Lord Irwin. At that time 83 lakh rupees were spent in building the present Parliament building. The new parliament building will be ready by October 2022. 888 members will be able to sit in the lower house, The Lok Sabha . At present, only 552 members can sit. There will be a seating arrangement of 384 members in the upper house i.e. Rajya Sabha. Currently there are 245 seats in Rajya Sabha. In the event of a joint sitting in the new Parliament, 1272 members will be able to sit. The new parliament building will have a constitutional hall, library, dining room, rooms of various committees and parking. The new Parliament House will have 530 seats for media persons. The structure of the Lok Sabha will be based on the theme of the National Bird Peacock, while the structure of the Rajya Sabha will be based on the theme of the National Flower Lotus.
The construction area of the new Parliament building will be 64500 square meters which will be 17000 square meters more than the existing Parliament. It will cost Rs 971 crore to build a new parliament building. Tata Project Limited, the country's reputed company, will build the new parliament building. Each MP will get 40 square meters of space in the new Parliament building. Electricity consumption in the new Parliament building will be reduced by 30%. Every MP will also have an office. It is not fair to make disputes over the construction of new Parliament building without any argument. The matter of construction of Parliament building has reached the Supreme Court. It is being argued that despite the old Parliament building, why is the new Parliament House being constructed? Why is Rs 971 crore being spent while the old Parliament House is still in good condition?
The Vedic rituals and Bhoomi Pujan of the new Parliament building is being disputed. This is exactly what happened when Defense Minister Rajnath Singh performed Shastra Pujan and emblazoned Rafael with am 'Om'. Secularism does not mean that we forget our culture and tradition. The worship of the new parliament was followed by the Sarvadharma prayer. In the original copy of the Constitution there are pictures of Lord Rama and Krishna in this spirit.
With the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats in 2026, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats will definitely increase. There will be an increase of hundreds of seats after the delimitation. Where will so many MPs sit? How will the joint session of parliament be conducted? How will the Parliament function smoothly?
More than 3000 employees of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are also employed. The productivity of these employees will be improved with the construction of new Parliament building. The new parliament building is expected to remain an integral part of the country's parliamentary system for the next 150 years. The new Parliament House will continue to proclaim the great Indian democracy and self-reliant India with the world stage for hundreds of years to come.
