KPs have lost interest in democratic process main cause of not taking part in elections

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 18: Leading an exiled life for over last 31 years in different parts of country, the Kashmiri Pandits have lost total interest in democratic institutions of the country for their failure in restoring their birth place to them.
According some KP activists involved in community activities for decades together the failure of Union as well as State Government to restore the homeland to community in over last 31 years is the main reason that migrant voters did not show any interest in democratic process and ongoing District Development Council(DDC) and Panchayat elections. They said failure of Indian Government to redress the issue of genocide of the community the KPs have lost entire interest in country's democratic process with the result they did not show any interest in voting and cast their vote. They said the India democracy has failed to protect the fundamental rights of this miniscule minority of Valley which has been hounded out from its homes and hearths by separatist and extremist elements over 31 years back for being loyal to nation and its cause. The Government of that time failed to protect the community from Pak sponsored Muslim terrorism and fundamentalism who indulged in selective killing of members of minority community in Kashmir besides destroying their property.
" What purpose our vote will serve us now when the elected Governments in Central and Erstwhile State of J&K failed to protect us earlier and later restore our birth place to us in last over 31 years", said Nana Ji a social and community activist.
" It is unfortunate that the Government both at Delhi and J& K failed to rehabilitate us in our homeland in Kashmir in last over three decades and we have been denied the basic rights till date and how long we have to lead an exiled life in future", he asked?
" We are refugees in our own country. We crave for returning to our homes and hearths in Kashmir get our land and property back which has been encroached by unscrupulous and anti national elements but Government is not paying heed to it and how long more we will lead such a life", said Kuldeep Kumar a PK activist. "We have been attached a label as migrants when we are the internally displaced people means we have been thrown out from our houses and now debarred to return. Is not this the grave violation of our human rights and failure of Indian democracy to protect us", he added.
Will our coming generations to be called as migrants and they have also to remain dependent on meagre cash doles from Government,. Don't they have the rights like other citizens of country, he asked?
He said our two generations have perished and future of community is totally bleak. We have lost entire immovable property in Valley and s vast portion of it has been grabbed either by anti social elements or Government agencies for construction of schools, dispensaries, busstands, Government offices etc. Even the community has been denied access to its ancestral homes and the Government has been a mute spectator to all this , he added.
He said even GOI is being misled by some vested elements in Kashmir saying that community has a vested in migration and it also accepted this version ignoring the causes and reasons which led to the mass exodus.
The people who were leading an honourable and dignified life became refugees in their own country and forced to lead a life like beggers and still it is said they had come in search of green pastures.
The Government of India which was duty bound to set all this aside and take a concrete measure for their dignified rehabilitation in Valley which it completely failed so what fun is there in casting the vote.
