'Imran imitates China's development model to eradicate poverty'

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 5: Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan's new year resolution that "his govt wants to learn from China's development model to eradicate poverty" clearly reveals his greed and his vested interests, surrendered his country before Beijing.
Despite growing anger against China in Pakistan especially in the region of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan at the manner in which Pakistan's resources are being exploited by China under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to the detriment of local people.
Imran khan has totally ignored these facts and is all set to copy the model of economic development followed by china. The premier said that the government's policy was simple and based on the concept of supporting business for the creation of wealth that would lead to prosperity which contradicts the real situation on ground where the Baloch and the people of Gilgit Baltistan are denied local jobs, as Chinese companies prefer to bring in cheap Chinese labourers to do the tasks.
Moreover, the Chinese companies are unmindful of local customs and traditions and have kept themselves aloof from local people and also reportedly mistreat them a number of times. While hailing the China's strategy of poverty alleviation he stated "the way they industrialised, made special export zones, brought investments from abroad, and used those investments to increase their exports, all resulted in China increasing its wealth," adding, "They used that money to bring their population out of poverty [...] there is no other example of this in history."
But totally ignored the fact that their own resources are being exploited under their prestigious CPEC which also denied job opportunities to the locals. Not only this CPEC has increased engagement in all spheres of society including people to people contact, spurring many marriages, often purely for economic reasons.
Many cases have been reported where agents in China and Pakistan have used the garb of CPEC to literally kidnap girls from lower socio-economic backgrounds, especially from minority communities such as Christians, and marry them off to Chinese men. Since there is wide cultural gap, the women face many adjustment problems in the new land which brought them ill-treatment by their counterparts and in-laws.
A number of reports and complaints have been received from the women and their families about mistreatment by their husbands and in-laws. Along with that getting swamped by Chinese culture is a definite fear among the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, who have expressed their concern to several officials But the Pakistani authorities have made their silence and dancing to the tunes of China.
This is again contrary to his recent statement where he is talking about making Pakistan a 'Welfare State but ignoring the fact that its continuous silence on China's arbitrariness through CPEC is proving to be detrimental for the lower strata of society.
Deep involvement of China in Pakistan, specially in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan has created the fear of usurpation of land by the Public Liberation Army (PLA), but this fear is not been addressed or even given any importance by Prime Minister Imran Khan which negates his high claims of economic growth, poverty eradication and welfare state.
