Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 5: Pakistan based mentors of various terrorist outfits are indulged in smuggling drugs to fund terrorists active in J&K and other parts of the country.
In its supplementary charge-sheet in Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) narco-terrorism case, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) on Tuesday substantiated that various terror groups were indulged in smuggling drugs to fund terrorists.
In this case Punjab Police had arrested one Hilal Ahmed of Pulwama in the month of April in the year 2020. Police had recovered an amount worth Rs 29 lakh from his possession. Keeping in view the seriousness, the matter was taken by the NIA for further investigation.
During investigation by NIA, it emerged that accused Hilal, who had come to Amritsar to collect the amount of Rs 29 Lacs, was a member of terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and a close associate of Riyaz Ahmed Naikoo, the then HM commander of Kashmir Valley. This led to busting of a major Narco-terror module involved in smuggling and selling of Heroin in India and channelizing of drug-proceeds to Pakistan through Hawala and to the HM terrorists based in J&K at the behest of HM terrorists based in Pakistan.
Today a supplementary charge-sheet was filed by NIA in this case. against narco-terrorists Jaswant Singh @ Jassa of Gurdaspur and Gursant Singh @ Gora of Tarn Taran, Punjab. Both the accused persons were involved in collection, distribution and selling of Heroin smuggled from Pakistan as also in collection and channelization of proceeds so generated for furthering the activities of HM. Accused Gursant Singh was one of the important members of terrorist gang and as a close associate of prime accused Iqbal Singh @ Shera was responsible for safe movement of Heroin and proceeds to various places/unknown persons. Investigation has also brought out that he has purchased many immovable properties and luxury cars to be used as hide outs and for transportation of drugs and proceeds.
Earlier, a charge-sheet was filed against ten accused persons namely Hilal Ahmed, Bikram Singh, Maninder Singh, Ranjit Singh, Jaswant Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Iqbal Singh, (Absconding), Zafar Hussain Bhat, of Anantnag (J&K), presently in Pakistan and Riyaz Ahmed Naikoo, who was killed by security forces.
