Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 5: 6th Asian Beach Games which were originally scheduled to be held in Sanya City, China from November 28 to December 4, 2020 but were pushed back to 2nd to 10th of April 2021 and for which two sport climbers of J&K Shivani Charak and Ajay Deep Singh had been selected in the Indian sport climbing team, have been postponed for a second time due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions and health protocols. The decision was taken jointly by the Olympic Council of Asia, the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Sanya Asian Beach Games Organising Committee. It is very unfortunate that Shivani and Ajay Deep who had been preparing for this competition since their last participation in Asian Youth Championship in December, 2019 in which Shivani had secured a Bronze medal, have lost an opportunity to showcase their climbing skills at the international competition and bring laurels to the Union Territory of J&K and the country. It may be mentioned here that the Asian Beach Games, also known as ABG, is a very popular multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia and includes about 17 beach sports such as beach volleyball, wrestling, soccer, athletics, aquatics, handball, kabaddi and of course Sport climbing, to name a few. |
