Mehbooba’s one more MP raises banner of revolt | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 10: What could possibly act as a last nail into the coffin of Peoples Alliance of Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is a recent statement a PDP Member Parliament expressing resentment against the conglomerate. Throwing barbs at the NC Patriarch Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, PDP’s Rajya Sabha member from north Kashmir upped the ante against the PAGD leadership, accusing it of ignoring the gross violation committed by none other than the National Conference itself in seat sharing agreements. “Whatever the decisions were taken by PAGD leadership were not adhered on the ground. All of us nominated proxy candidates. What was the fun of PAGD then? We were given one seat in Handwara and Karnah each and no seat in Kupwara. In Karnah, NC nominated their proxy candidate. We were given two seats in Lolab, but at both places NC nominated its own candidates,” said PDP MP Fayaz Mir in a statement here. “If you boast of unification for the cause, then when your leaders, MLAs, MPs don’t adhere to the decision, aren’t they deceiving the people and pushing them into a quagmire. They have to give statehood at any cost. Article 370 was given by this country not Pakistan. It is not a crime to talk about Article 370. We will talk about our rights,” Mir said. This new whistleblower within the PDP has also accused the PDP of not toeing the line shown and drawn by its founder Mufti Sayeed when he founded the party in the year 1999. “If anything happens in a home, its head has to take the blame. As far as Mehbooba Ji is concerned, she is not to be blamed for it. Yes the vision of Mufti sahib to pull out this state from a quagmire was stalled by our leaders. This is the reason we are showing downward performance after every election. Mehbooba Ji herself can speak better on it,” Mir was quoted as having said in the statement. The handout is meanwhile a direct indication that the PDP itself is facing immense heat within its ranks over the PAGD cauldron. Even the leaders from National Conference like Basharat Bukhari and Peoples Conference’s Abdul Gani Vakil have already been expressing dismay over the PAGD quagmire and have questioned their respective parties that continuing with any such arrangement in future is going to prove apocalyptic for the parties. Meanwhile, a senior PDP functionary told Early Times that the statement issued by the PDP MP Fayaz Mir is not a good sign and smacks of yet another rebellion within the party that has been battling the plethora of hardships already within its ranks. He said that the feelers sent out by the parliament member hints that he is weighing the options of bidding adieu to the party. “It is not a very hopeful scenario being witnessed. It could lead to more entropy and more confusion,” says the PDP leader. |
