Omar needs to explain his contribution to J&K politics, his own party?

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 10: In a recent interview the former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah had asserted that he was struggling with the question whether he should continue in politics or not. But a million dollar question is what has been his contribution to the politics in Jammu and Kashmir or his contribution to his own family oriented party National Conference.
In an interview to a private news portal, Omar Abdullah has reportedly claimed that it was not easy to reconcile with what was done to Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 and he was struggling with question of continuing in politics and has lot of doubts and no answer.
But political observers are of the view that Omar should question himself as what was his contribution to the politics of Jammu and Kashmir and even to his own family oriented political party.
Starting with his personal contribution during the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, there were large scale killings in the Kashmir valley under his command, while there was no let up in the militancy related incidents.
“It was during his tenure as Chief Minister the cycle of killings and protests in Kashmir had taken the toll of over one hundred youth and he was completely failed to stop the cycle of violence”, a political observer said, adding that but on the other hand since the incumbent Union government led by Prime Minister Narender Modi has directly taken the reins of Jammu and Kashmir, the killing spree of youth has totally stopped, while the militancy related incidents were at their lowest.
Moreover, his party had miserably failed to address issues of various sections including government employees, unemployed youth beside other sections due to which the people of Jammu and Kashmir had rejected his party and gave mandate to Peoples’ Democratic Party and Bhartiya Janta Party (PDP-BJP) combine.
Apart from his failure as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, if one goes by his personal contribution to his family party National Conference, his performance has been totally shabby on all counts. “The world knows the truth that it was Omar’s family party National Conference, which was primarily responsible for eruption of militancy in Kashmir valley due to rigged elections of last eighties along with Congress party. Being Chief Minister or a scion of Abdullah family, Omar had not done anything for eradication of militancy in Kashmir valley”, a political observer said.
Moreover, Omar Abdullah was nominated for Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, not for his competency or great contribution to the building of party or any other political fiat but being scion of Abdullah family.
“National Conference is not a democratic party in which any party worker can reach to the level of Party president but a family oriented party in which one family members can head the important posts like president, vice president. When Omar was nominated for the post of Chief Minister, many National Conference stalwart leaders, who had worked with Omar’s father were sidelined but a young inexperienced family member was selected”, another politician said, adding that instead of democratizing the functioning of the National Conference, Omar never questioned the undemocratic, family centric decision making in the party.
“There seems no or little contribution of these family scions for the greater public good of any state except their personal growth and fortunes and concentration of political power in the hands of few families across the country”, a politician said, adding that leaving politics by such family men would only be beneficial for the general public.
