Mehbooba to elect herself as PDP chief for a seventh consecutive term! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 16: Mehbooba Mufti is going once again to elect herself as PDP president on February 22 for the seventh consecutive term. Although the party has announced to conduct election for the party president, it is believed that no party leader would dare to file nomination papers as a candidate for party president. Reliable sources in the PDP told The Early Times that election for party president will not be held because Mehbooba Mufti is going to elect for this post unanimously because fighting election for this post would enrage incumbent leadership. “As most of the mass base leaders have deserted the party so no leader is left in the party who would dare to challenge leadership of Mehbooba Mufti in the party”, sources said and added that party units of both Jammu and Kashmir provinces would separately passed resolutions to unanimously again elect as party president. Since formation of PDP in the year 1999, Mehbooba Mufti remained president of the party for most of the period. After the demise of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the year 2016, one of the founders of the party, Muzaffar Hussain Baig was elected as patron of the party on December 11, 2018. Baig was made patron of the party under compulsion because there was rebellion in the PDP at that time as four former MLAs had resigned from the party while there were rumours of many more leaders deserting the party. Earlier Mehbooba Mufti was elected as party president on December 2, 2017 when she was chief minister of PDP-BJP coalition regime in the erstwhile state of J&K. She was elected as party president for three years. |
