Now, trusted lieutenants begin leaving Mehbooba’s PDP | Peerzada Mansoor resigns, will Naeem Akhtar be next? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 16: Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday got yet another shock amid the prevalent fiasco within the party as one of her trusted party men Peerzada Mansoor resigned from the PDP’s basic membership, stating that he no longer wishes to remain a part of the political party. According to the party’s senior leadership Mansoor’s resignation is a big blow to the party as he was considered as Mehbooba’s most closest aide. “When your very own people leave you in lurch, how could you expect others to follow and obey you. It is now going to be a roller coaster ride for the PDP to gain ground in Kashmir’s drastically changed political landscape,” said a senior PDP leader wishing not to be named. According to the sources, Mansoor was disgruntled due to being sidelined by the party during the most trying circumstances and was among the first few leaders who expressed resentment over Mehbooba’s provocative statements prior to the revocation of Article 370. The PDP president had dared the Central Government to scrap Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, warning that Article 370 was a powder keg and anyone who touches it will find himself caught into lethal flames. Furthermore, recently when Mansoor along with Naeem Akhtar and Mehboba’s uncle Sartaj Madani were detained ahead of the DDC poll results, the party didn’t raise the issue of its senior leaders and instead focused on the captivity of one single youth leader from South Kashmir. Mehbooba showing no concern for others, according to the insiders, has annoyed senior PDP leaders including Mansoor. There are also speculations that senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar may also be leaving the party anytime soon. Mansoor who won the 2008 assembly elections from Shangus constituency was one of the trusted lieutenants of the PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Known for his political acumen and astuteness, Mansoor had a meteoric rise within the party circles within a short period, making him one of its most veteran voices. He served as Mehbooba Mufti’s political advisor and was one of her staunch supporters within the PDP. On Tuesday, Mansoor shot a detailed resignation letter to the PDP president, stating that it had been a great learning experience for him and that he will remain forever indebted for her support and guidance. “However, at this stage of life due to strong political and personal reasons I am unable to continue my association with the party. Please accept my resignation from the basic membership of the party,” reads the resignation letter. “It is a very painful moment for me to say goodbye to the institution that made me what I am today. But then I am sure that the experiences gained here will forever stay with me and I will always continue to be your well-wisher. My best wishes are always there for your future journey,” Mansoor concluded in the farewell note. |
