AAP demands free electricity upto 300 units for J&K people | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 18: Demanding free electricity up to 300 units for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu Kashmir today submitted a memorandum to LG through Divisional Commissioner Jammu. AAP members said that 300 units of electricity supply to all domestic connections be given free of cost. It is brought out that this could be achieved by plugging illegal connections, transmission wastage and by arresting other corrupt practices noticed in the system. This has already been achieved in the Union Territory of Delhi by AAP Government by resorting to effective people friendly working environment in Delhi Electricity Board despite the fact that they purchase the power from public and private companies. Despite the fact that government of Jammu and Kashmir (UT) has larger share of power coming from local resources and needs less transmission expenditure, the charges levied especially on domestic consumption needs critical analysis to spare poor people from unbearable electric bills. This is therefore reiterated that the genuine demand of 300 units of electric consumption be allowed free of charges to all domestic connections to mitigate discriminatory treatment given to the people of Jammu and Kashmir unlike the people of Union Territory of Delhi. AAP requested LG to instruct concerned government authority to accord due priority and adopt Delhi Model in the interest of larger welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Those who were present in the rally are senior party leaders including Ravi Shastri, Sewak Singh, Mahesh Sudan, Balwinder Singh, Kapoor Singh Mehar Singh, Gurmeet Singh and others. |
