Congress never wants ULBs to function at full capacity : Suri | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 18: Coming down heavily on Congress for misguiding people about essence of democracy and the way democratic institutions function, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri today said that Congress had been looting the country since independence, discouraging commoners from paying taxes and crippling them by subsidizing products farbelow their original purchase costs. A political party, that during its regime never held elections to District Development Councils (DDCs), always discouraged local body polls, never extended 73rd and 74th amendments of the Constitution of India to Jammu and Kashmir for strengthening Municipal Corporations and Panchayati Raj system and also allowed elected local bodies to lapse without holding elections to them, is today spilling on roads against property tax. Referring to the proposal of government to implement property tax, Suri said, we need to talk to the government in order to decide which properties should be taxed and which not besides who should get what percentage of concessions, unlike what Congress wants that is paying no taxes at all, which is sheer political gimmick and will deprive people of their rights and duties towards the nation. |
