After spending crores, water supply schemes defunct in Nowshera

Early Times Report

Rajouri, Mar 3: Water supply schemes worth crores executed by an overstaying Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) in Public Health Engineering Department in Nowshera Division have been ostensibly lying defunct.
Sources in the department told Early Times that the AEE in question has never been posted out of Nowshera Division in the past fifteen years. He has remained posted at Kalakote, Sunderbani and Nowshera.
“ The AEE executed several water supply schemes including dug wells, creation of water sources and construction of supply lines etc, in above mentioned three subdivisions. Most of the funds were spent in Kalakote sub division wherein some works were executed by department and some were executed through e-tendering,” sources said.
“It’s strange that despite crores being spent water sources that were created have been lying dry. This indicates mismanagement and improper planning on the part of the concerned official due to which the people could not be benefited from these schemes,” they alleged.
“The incumbent AEE and junior engineer got these schemes executed without conducting proper survey of the water sources. It has been observed that the AEE after completing one water scheme in one sub division managed to get himself transferred to another sub division for a new scheme,” sources alleged.
Locals have urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Sinha to initiate an inquiry into the schemes that were executed in the last 15 years by the AEE.
Executive Engineer PHE Nowshera Division, when contacted, said that he can’t comment on the matter as he was busy in a meeting.
