Jammu, Mar 11: Within days after the much publicized rally of the G-23 leaders at Jammu, the Congress high-command has reportedly asked J&K unit to take action against loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad- who have been boycotting official functions for the last some months. Reliable sources told The Early Times that instead of taking direct action against Azad, Congress leadership has devised a strategy to counter aggressive campaign of former leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha by targeting his loyalists in J&K. “After meeting party high command just after rally of G-23 leaders at Jammu PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir is already in-touch with AICC incharge of J&K Rajni Patil to take action against leaders, who owe their allegiance with Azad”, sources said and added that notices to some Azad loyalists have already served after they had boycotted Patil’s function at Jammu a couple of months back. Sources said that instead of taking action against all loyalists of Azad in one go, the Congress leadership has decided to target them (Azad loyalists) one by one. “During his visit to Delhi recently, Mir had brief high-command about indiscipline of Azad’s supporters in J&K. It was all due to Mir’s suggestion that high-command has given green signal to him (Mir) to take on Azad’s loyalists”, sources said. Almost all loyalists of Azad have been boycotting official functions of the party for the quite some time to challenge leadership of PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir. As reported earlier by this news-paper, infighting in the faction ridden Congress is likely to be intensified after visit Azad along with senior prominent faces of dissident group, popularly known as G-23. |
