Early Times Report
ANANTNAG, Mar 13: The Block Development Officer Dachnipora (Srigufwara) has ordered an inter-block verification of all cases sanctioned under centrally sponsored scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) after the allegations of nepotism and favoritism surfaced.
Arshi Rashool, Block Development Officer Dachnipora-who is known for her integrity and honesty-, has constituted a four member committee in order to re-verify the PMAY-G Non-Sec and IAY cases.
The committee has been mandated to physically verify the status beneficiaries enlisted in PMAY-G Non-Sec and IAY.
"The committee so constituted shall submit a status report to this office with the remarks whether the enlisted members are eligible or not and if found ineligible, the reason of ineligibility may also be furnished to this office," reads the order, a copy of which lies with Early Times.
The committee members include Shabir Ahmad Reshi-Panchayat Inspector, Farooq Ahmad Rather-SO Planning, Sajad Ahmad Dar-Junior Engineer (for halqas of Bijbehara constituency) and Ab Muneeb-Junior Engineer (for halqas of Pahalgam constituency). In addition to this the concerned Panchayat Secretary and DRW's have been directed to accompany the committee for identification of beneficiaries.
Few days ago, the residents of Lehendagan village of Pahalgam alleged nepotism and favoritism in identifying the beneficiaries for centrally sponsored scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The residents alleged that the officials of the Rural Development Department have included those residents in the list again who have already availed benefits.
BDO Srigufwara admitted to have received such complaints and assured that she will herself verify the PMAY cases in Lehendagan village of Pahalgam.
"Yes, I will accompany the verification team and will visit Lehendagan," she told Early Times over the phone.
BDO Srigufwara also revealed that she has asked the complainant to submit a bank statement of his bank account to substantiate the claim that he paid Rupees 20,000 to a RDD employee out of the money he received as first installment.
"If his (complainant) claim proved correct we will take action against the employe," she said
The complainant, a resident Lehendagan was put on notice by the department as he failed to start construction of his house despite having received the first installment.
Lehendagan village of Pahalgam is native village of BDC Chairman Dachnipora Bashir Ahmad Pathan who couldn't be contacted for a comment over the issue as his phone remained switched off till late evening.
In 2013, the Rural Development Department Block Dachnipora (Srigufwara) came under scanner after the infamous 'IAY Hut allocation Scam' surfaced. On the basis of preliminary enquiry, Block Development Officer was placed under suspension; however the final conclusion of the scam was never made public.
