SRINAGAR, Mar 17: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir witnessed a marginal spike in the COVID-19 cases as 126 new cases of the virus were reported in the past 24 hours. The death toll reached 1,977 as one more person died due to the virus in Kashmir valley.
Srinagar district reported 62 fresh cases of Corona Virus including 23 travelers followed by Baramulla district 23 cases, Jammu district 15 cases, Anantnag district eight cases, Budgam, Shopian and Doda districts four cases each, Kulgam district two cases and a case each in Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal & Udhampur districts. Fresh virus related death was reported from Anantnag district in Kashmir valley.
The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 126 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 20 from Jammu division and 106 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1, 27,957. Also one COVID-19 death has been reported from Kashmir division.
Moreover, 90 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 10 from Jammu division and 80 from Kashmir division. Out of 1, 27,957 positive cases, 1,008 are active positive, 1, 24,972 have recovered and 1,977 have died; 731 in Jammu division and 1,246 in Kashmir division.
Out of 56, 34,811 test results available, 55, 06,854 samples have tested negative till date. Till date 14, 04,310 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 29,674 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 1,008 in isolation and 1, 19,146 in home surveillance. Besides, 12, 52,505 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 27,735 positive cases, 492 active positive, 26,779 recovered, 464 deaths; Baramulla has 8,430 positive cases, 93 active positive, 8,159 recovered, 178 deaths; Budgam has 7,989 positive cases, 59 active positive, 7,810 recovered, 120 deaths; Pulwama has 5,914 positive cases, 31 active positive, 5,791 recovered, 92 deaths; Kupwara has 5,725 positive cases, 21 active positive, 5,607 recovered, 97 deaths.
"Anantnag has 5,095 positive cases, 20 active positive, 4,983 recovered, 92 deaths; Bandipora has 4,731 positive cases, 10 active positive, 4,659 recovered, 62 deaths; Ganderbal has 4,690 positive cases, 14 active positive, 4,629 recovered, 47 deaths; Kulgam has 2,755 positive cases, 15 active positive, 2,686 recovered, 54 deaths and Shopian has 2,626 positive cases, 18 active positive, 2,568 recovered, 40 deaths," reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 25,437 positive cases, 188 active positive, 24,871 recovered, 378 deaths; Udhampur has 4,326 positive cases, eight active positive, 4,261 recovered, 57 deaths; Rajouri has 3,879 positive cases, two active positive, 3,822 recovered, 55 deaths; Doda has 3,444 positive cases, four active positive, 3,376 recovered, 64 deaths; Kathua has 3,271 positive cases, three active positive, 3,215 recovered, 53 deaths.
"Samba has 2,843 positive cases, four active positive, 2,798 recovered, 41 deaths; Kishtwar has 2,739 positive cases, one active positive, 2,716 recovered, 22 deaths; Poonch has 2,535 positive cases, 15 active positive, 2,496 recovered, 24 deaths; Ramban has 2,135 positive cases, 2,114 recovered, 21 deaths and Reasi has 1,658 positive cases, 10 active positive, 1,632 recovered, 16 deaths," reads the bulletin. Out of 1, 27,957 positive cases, 12,711 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least two meters from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
