Green gold plays significant role in maintaining balance of ecosystem: Col Singh | DDC chairperson launches tree plantation drive at JNV Basohli | | Early Times Report
BASOHLI, Mar 21: Col Mahan Singh (Retd), DDC Chairperson of district Kathua today launched a tree plantation drive to mark the World Forest Day at JNV Basohli. On the occasion, BDC Basohli Chairperson, Sushma Jamwal, Sumesh Spolia, Chairman Municipal Corporation Basohli and DFO Basohli accompanied the DDC Chairperson. A pledge was taken by the gathering present including children of JNV to save trees and protect environment. Col Singh planted a sapling and highlighted the importance of afforestation in contemporary times. He quoted several religious scripts and underscored the need of planting saplings across Jammu and Kashmir for better future. “Everybody should be concerned about unabated felling of trees and rising pollution, which has caused extensive damage to our serene environment,” he said, adding it was the responsibility of every individual to plant as much saplings as possible to check environmental pollution. Underscoring on giving utmost attention to the conservation of ecosystem, Col Singh said that the green gold has an important role in maintaining fine balance of the ecosystem and increased green cover would go a long way in preserving the ecological balance on the planet. He said the drive would not stop at planting new trees only but focus would be laid to ensure proper care and attention of the planted sapling. Col also took a round of JNV complex and appreciated the maintenance and upkeep of school. He called upon the students and staff of JNV to be part of the drive and contribute to the cause of preserving environment by planting trees in their surroundings. |
