COVID again | | | The second wave of COVID-19 has arrived. The experts had sounded an alarm long back. But the people didn't pay much heed towards it. The country has recorded more than 40,000 cases for two consecutive days and the number seems to be rising everywhere. During the past two days India has witnessed highest jumps in cases during the past four months. Soon after the first wave of the COVID-19 subsided, medicos and experts urged people to follow the norms, but unfortunately people thought that the pandemic is over and they didn't bother much. The surge in cases is an indication that coming days are going to be tough. Chief of All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Dr Randeep Guleria recently stated that the spike in infections is likely being caused by slip-ups in precautionary measures and variants of the virus. He warned that the cases could spread even more rapidly if basic protective steps like wearing masks and rigorous contact-tracing are not followed. People not wearing masks and large crowds gathering at places without any face cover have led to the resurgence of COVID-19. Experts believe that it's still not too late but people will have to revert to basics to keep the virus at bay. The vaccination drive has been intensified and the ones who are getting a chance to get the COVID jab need not shy away from it. The people who have been administered vaccines have not complained about any side effects. It's high time for people to get vaccinated and the government should make people from all age groups eligible for the COVID-19 jab. This will also help in reducing the wastage of the protective shield against the deadly virus. Jammu region too can witness increase in number of the COVID cases if people don't take the warnings seriously. During the first wave of COVID, people of Jammu led from the front. They acted responsibly and followed the SOPs in letter and spirit. Situation may not turn as bad as it had turned during the first phase but people have to maintain discipline and save themselves from getting infected. All of us are aware of the fact that the healthcare system in Jammu region is fragile and it cannot take much load. We need to bear in mind that precaution is better than cure and this second phase will also pass. We have to be patient and careful. |
