Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 22: It may sound "bizarre" but it's true that a High School with approximately around 200 enrolled students is being headed by a Rehabir-e-Taleem teacher commonly being referred as ReT.
All this has once again open the lid on students/teachers ratio which is less in far flung areas of the Jammu and Kashmir as compared to schools falling under Municipal limits where in some schools two dozen teachers are posted against the strength of students less than 100 in number.
As per the details available with Early Times, High School Margi in remote Warwan area of Marwah Sub Division falls in very rough terrain covered with landlocked mountains and without electricity even after 74 year of independence is being run by two ReT teachers namely Shabir Ahmed Lone and Tarjeed Ahmed Koka while the 3rd female teacher, a general line teacher posted in the school is on maternity leave and is posted in the school since last 9 years without being transferred.
Political and social activist from Warwan Muzaffar Ahmad Lone told the Early Times that 11 posts are sanctioned for the High School Margi with around 200 students including girls are enrolled for the classes from 1st standard to 10th standard, adding that among the 11 posts; one sanctioned post is that of headmaster, 6 posts are that of master grade and 4 for teacher grade and among all these sanctioned posts, only one teacher post is filled up while all other 10 posts are vacant. The two ReT teachers are posted in the school in addition to the staff strength as per the government policy.
"We have approached various quarters with the request to fill up the vacant posts but nothing was done, our area is very poor and our children are suffering," said Lone. He said that due to non availability of internet students from our area fail to attend any online classes that further dented the aspirations of the local students of the area.
"Our school comprises of 4 rooms, yes you heard rightly, only 4 rooms for 200 students which is a cruel joke with the poor students of Margi High School," said Muzzafar Lone. He said that the government has taken some initiative for construction of additional infrastructure in the school, but cost factor hampered the construction," said Lone.
He said that it is not possible for any contractor to construct the building at same cost to that of areas like Jammu or District Headquarter Kishtwar, adding that carriage and cost of the material used in the construction work are the major headache for construction in this remote part of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the construction cost is triple in areas like Marwah and Warwan as compared to Jammu or Kishtwar or to say in Kashmir.
He said that there is immediate need for posting of the staff in High School Margi along with speeding up the construction of additional infrastructure for the school.
