Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 27: The youth of Jammu and Kashmir should take a leaf from the book of a trio of martyred freedom fighters 'Trimurti'- Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sukhdev to serve the nation in a befitting manner. This was stated by Ajay Sadhotra, former Minister and senior leader National Conference while paying tributes to great leaders who have sacrificed their lives in making India free from British rulers. Sadhotra was speaking during a valedictory function of Trimurti Balidan Yadgaar T20 Cricket Cup, organized by National Secular Forum (NSF) at GGM Science Col?ege Hostel ground, here today. While lavishing praise on the organisers for holding the event in a fabulous way in the memory of great soldiers of the nation. He said such events serve a twin purpose of promoting sports and enhancing peace, integrity and harmony. The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Dr Vikas Sharma, president NSF who is being assisted by Sheshu Pal, Sachin Singh and Ashok Kumar. The chief guest was accompanied by Prof Keshav Sharma as the guest of honour, while Ankush Abrol, former Member BCCI; Rajesh Dhar, former Chairman Media Committee JKCA; Dr Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director GGM Science College Jammu; Dr Vikas Sharma and Sheshu Pal were the special guests. Earlier, in the final, Bagwati Cricket Club defeated Press Club XI by 9 wickets in an easy contest to lift the title. Batting first, Press Club scored a paltry total of 85 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Saksham, Sumit and Jugal contributed 12 runs each to the total. For Bagwati Cricket Club, Sonu, Rajkumar and Rishu took 2 wickets each, while Ashok and Janak claimed 1 wicket each. In reply, Bagwati Cricket Club chased the target easily in 11 overs by losing 1 wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets. Kala top scored with unbeaten 38 runs, while Surinder contributed unbeaten 15 runs to the total. Rajkumar was the only batsman dismissed for 26 runs. For his splendid all-round show Rajkumar was adjudged as the man of the match. The winners and runners-up teams were presented T-shirts as individual prizes along with the trophies by the chief guest. The chief guest also honoured the special guests, security staff and officials besides groundsmen on the occasion. The match was officiated by Dayal Singh and Vinod as umpires, while Sumit was the scorer. The proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by famous anchor Rajesh Dhar. Earlier, Prof Keshav Sharma also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the initiative taken by NSF, while Dr Vikas Sharma presented vote of thanks. |
