Omar 'downplays' ED's action against Mehbooba | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 27: Former Chief Minister and vice president of National Conference Omar Abdullah on Saturday 'generalize' quizzing of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti by the Enforcement Directorate in money laundering case. Instead of giving direct support to PDP chief, Omar Abdullah said that Mehbooba Mufti was not an isolated case there were many others facing similar charges. Responding to queries of media persons regarding quizzing of Mehbooba Mufti by ED, Omar equipped, "Mehbooba is not the only leader who was summoned. Wherever leaders are being summoned, the leaders are facing it in the form of questioning etc. We have observed in the past six-eight years, opposing the Centre's policies is being summoned by the agencies. We are ready to face this too". Omar has downplayed questioning of Mehbooba Mufti by ED so that his arch rival in J&K politics would not take political mileage of this action. After being quizzed by ED in a money laundering case, Mehbooba Mufti has been trying to take political mileage. Coming out of the office of the ED, Mehbooba minced no words in attacking Union Government for misusing this agency. She claimed that she was forced to signature a statement after the questioning. Although Mehbooba is trying to play 'victim card' after ED's action, she is not getting support from other political parties of the Union Territory (UT). Even constituents of the 'defunct' Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) have maintained a guarded silence on ED's action against ex-chief minister. |
