UDHAMPUR, Mar 27: Intensifying its on-going war against influential drug mafia and drug peddlers, Team Jammu in collaboration with Udhampur-Reasi Police Range today organized an awareness programme highlighting the ill-effects of drug abuse on society. Hundreds of people including women, elderly, youth Panchs, Sarpanchs of Pancheri-Moungri blocks participated in the programme and pledged not to allow drug menace in their hilly belt at any cost. Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Udhampur-Reasi Range, Sujit Kumar was the chief guest, SSP Udhampur, Sargun Shukla and Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal were the guests of honour. The function was organized by Team Jammu volunteer and young Member DDC, Pancheri-Moungri, Yasvir Singh. While addressing the mammoth gathering, DIG, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Sujit Kumar said that “it is the commitment of J&K UT Police to make J&K free from the yoke of drugs and narcotics. No section of the society has escaped from this menace. SSP, Udhampur, Sargun Shukla, in her address assured that police is odiously working to eradicate this menace. She said that district police Udhampur has further intensified its drive against anti-social activities especially against drug abuse and illicit liquor and the reflection of intensification can be seen through the number of cases registered and accused arrested in this regard. Elaborating that drug abuse is not only a menace but part of the nefarious designs to spoil younger generation, Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that, “Every day we are getting shocking information about suspected drug over dose deaths of youth from different parts of Jammu region. Despite police efforts, drug mafia is playing with lives of youth. Almost every second or third day, helpless parents are approaching Team Jammu to save their wards from this menace.” Young Member, DDC, Pancheri-Moungri, Yasvir Singh in his address voiced, “The people of Pancheri-Moungri hilly belt, rising above politics gathered here to give a clear message that it is a high-time to awake from deep slumber because drugs and narcotics are destroying lives of the youth. |
