Shab-e-Baraat celebrated with religious fervor, gaiety in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 30: The Shab-e-Baraat was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety in the Kashmir valley, where no night-long congregational prayers were held in main shrine and other worship places, including historic Jamia Masjid due to fresh wave of COVID-19 and continues detention of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq. However, some religious organizations and people have questioned the cancelation of night-long congregational prayers on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat when thousands of people, mostly without wearing masks and maintaining physical distance, are visiting tourist places, particularly Badamwari in the down town. However, devotees joined night-long prayers in local mosques in their respective areas though majority people offered special prayers in their homes. This is the second consecutive year no congregational Shab-e-Baraat were offered in main mosques and shrine and other places due to COVID-19. Majority religious leaders had appealed to people to offer special prayers in their respective homes to avoid further spread of virus. Only yesterday 104 new positive cases were reported on Monday in the valley. However, people offered special prayers in mosques and other local worship places in their respective areas in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where 99 fresh positive cases were reported yesterday. Similar reports of offering night prayers in local mosques were also received from other parts of the Kashmir valley. The Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, had announced that the Baraat congregation, which was scheduled to be held at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar on March 29, the night of the 15 Sha'ban-ul-Muazzam after Isha (evening) prayers, has been cancelled in view of the fresh wave of Covid-19 and continued house arrest of Mirwiaz who was addressing congregation on the occasion. The night-long special prayers in the masjid has been cancelled in view of the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and medical experts in wake of the resurgence of Covid-19 cases. Anjuman has appealed to people to religiously follow the Covid-19 guidelines and pray at their individual level for refuge from the deadly virus. Anjuman said it will soon announce a decision regarding the Taraweeh prayers in Jama Masjid in the coming month of holy Ramadan. |
