JAMMU, Apr 20: Ex-MLA Reasi has come in forefront to defend panchayat representatives of Panchayat Bhambla, who were allegedly involved in misappropriation of funds in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, which was highlighted through a news item published in Early Times.
Pertinently Early Times had published a news item ‘PMAY funds ‘misappropriated’ in Reasi’ but after the publication of the news, former MLA along with Sarpanch and Panch of Panchayat Bhambla held a lengthy meeting at respective Panchayat Ghar and it is learnt through reliable sources that during the deliberations they refuted the allegations leveled in the news item.
However, the local residents raised question mark on authority of ex-MLA for chairing a meeting of panchayat representatives at Panchayat Ghar since the rules say that he can’t do this.
“It is the duty and responsibility of the concerned department to look into the allegations of misappropriation of funds under PMAY and the interference of ex-MLA is not permissible. Moreover, he can’t take meetings of panchayat representatives in Panchayat Ghar as no political leader can take meetings there,” they alleged.
As per information over lakhs of rupees under PMAY were released in favour of a beneficiary to construct a one room house at Ward No 10 Godar Khalsa village in tehsil Pouni falling under Panchayat Bhambla but the said house was never constructed.
“PMAY norms envisage that funds are released in installments on completion of different stages of a house. The execution of the scheme is supervised by Sarpanch, Panch, Village Level Worker and GRS, finally the funds are released by the Block Development Officer,” they said.
District Development Council (DDC) chairman Kewal Krishan questioned the meeting held by ex-MLA. He said that it is the duty of the ACD and the BDO to look into the matter.
When Early Times contacted ADC Reasi, he said that the inquiry will be held and action will be taken if allegations are proved true.
