Gupta calls for opening additional vaccination centres, intensifying COVID testing | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: Lauding the frontline warriors including medicos, paramedics and others for their determined efforts in meeting the challenge of second wave coronavirus, National Conference State Secretary and former MLC Rattan Lal Gupta today called for a collective societal response and redoubled measures by the administration to defeat the dreaded virus. “The nation is passing through very difficult times and keeping in view the alarming spike in recent weeks, Jammu and Kashmir administration must take lessons from Maharashtra and the national capital and make all necessary arrangements in advance to meet the situation”, Mr Rattan Lal Gupta said in a statement issued from Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this afternoon. He said a huge responsibility has cast upon the people in large also to foil the catastrophe without getting panicky and by maintaining Covid appropriate behaviour. There is no room for complacency, as the lowered guard has cost hugely in the metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Delhi. The situation, though very grim, can be met by adhering to the guidelines in letter and spirit, especially by maintaining social distancing, using masks and avoiding gatherings, he added. Mr Gupta urged the administration to rope in the private sector as also other agencies in enhancing the bedding capacities and ensuring adequate stocks of medical oxygen to meet the eventualities. He regretted that no headway has been made in filling up the sanctioned vacancies of doctors, which number over a thousand. This, together with, positioning of adequate staff and medicines at the health facilities should receive priority attention, he added. He also urged the administration to intensify testing and opening of additional vaccination centres as the third phase would cater to the younger population above 18 years. There is a need to increase the timing of the vaccination so that more and more people are covered. While making a passionate appeal to the administration for intensifying the sanitization of most thronged public spaces and utility services, Mr Gupta hoped the people will fight the life threatening epidemic with resilience and abide by the advisories issued from time to time. Describing the pandemic as life threatening unless preventive measures are taken, the former legislator also called for societal response to deal with the situation. |
