JAMMU, Apr 25: There is a dire need to start a medical oxygen plant in District Hospital Poonch as soon as possible and on top priority to avoid the havoc and mess in view of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, said Advocate Ronik Sharma. In a statement issued here today, Ronik Sharma said that there is a huge demand for oxygen for effective clinical treatment of Coronavirus patients in many hospitals all over the country. As a result, there are reports of shortage of medical oxygen in many hospitals especially in Maharashtra and Delhi and some other parts of the country, he added. Sharma said that looking into the present situation of the nation, there is no doubt about the acute shortage of medical oxygen supply in many hospitals and as well as other health care institutions in some parts of the country. He said that as far as Poonch is concerned, the district headquarter is around 240 kms away from Jammu and is one of the hilly and border districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, adding that at present there is no medical oxygen plant in District Hospital Poonch and all other Sub-District hospitals, Primary Health Care Centres located in far flung areas of the Poonch district and are totally dependent on the medical supplies from the District Hospital Poonch. It is pertinent to mention here that the recruitment of the pharmacists as well as other experts like Anesthesia Assistants should be given top priorities to avoid such kind of oxygen crisis situation in border district Poonch, he added.
