Munish Gupta asks govt to ensure provision of basic civic amenities
Locals of Raina Colony Babliana Sec-A Lane 2 seek improved lanes, sanitation
4/27/2021 10:47:23 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 27: The residents of Babliana area’s Raina Colony Sector-A Lane Number 2 have admonished the administration for its failure to ensure basic civic amenities for them as they are deprived of improved lanes, by-lanes and a mechanism of proper sanitation in their locality.
The Raina Colony Babliana falls under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency in Jammu city but the pitiable condition of lanes, by-lanes and drains present a sordid tale of absolute neglect by the people at the helm of affairs. The successive governments as well as the elected representatives have failed the people of the colony and they are suffering like anything.
Residents of the locality said that the Lane was not properly constructed by the concerned authorities, since the development of the locality. “The lane connecting the houses is still a dusty track with pebbles and stones, spread all over”, the residents said, adding that garbage could be seen littered at various places in the lane.
The residents further said that the concerned authorities have not properly constructed the lane while drains have also not been properly laid along both sides of the lane.
While highlighting their problems, the locals said that they are subjected to step-motherly treatment of the administration since several inner lanes of the entire area are in a dilapidated condition.
“Proper lanes play a significant part for an urbanized society. But it is a pity that most of the interior roads of the area are in a pathetic condition while there is hardly any attempt from the administration to improve their condition. The problem needs to be addressed sooner than later so that the residents get some respite from the hardships they are facing at present,” said locals.
“While in absence of the proper drains, the water gets discharged from the households and after draining out onto the lanes gets accumulated into small ditches.
The stagnant water in these small ditches provide breeding ground to the insects including flies and mosquitoes”, the residents said, adding that the garbage is also dumped along the lane, making it difficult to pass through it.
The residents said the authorities should fix tiles in the main lane so that the residents would not face problems.
The residents said that the municipal authorities have failed them since the garbage remains unattended for days together thus creating problems for the people to move on the pathetic road.
“The garbage including the polythene sheets, construction waste gets dumped in the lane, causing obstructions to passerby”, the residents said, adding that they have been forced to live a primitive life since the basic amenities have been denied to them.
Munish Gupta, Editor-in-Chief Early Times has demanded that the government should pay immediate attention to the problems of the people of Raina Colony Babliana Jammu Sector-A Lane 2. Munish Gupta urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the concerned authorities to provide basic amenities to the residents.
