Ignoring Corona threat RTO Jammu persists with Learner’s Driving Licence tests | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 27: Looking at the massive spike in cases of coronavirus across the country, different State, Union Territory and central governments have taken several preventive measures and emergent decisions to break the chain of infection. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) earlier this month cancelled its class 10 board exams and deferred the class 12 board exams. Following the decision from the CBSE, several state boards have also postponed or cancelled their exams too. Moreover, the ICSE class 10 board exams have also been cancelled in view of the worsening COVID-19 situation and the option for students to appear later has been withdrawn. Even the Out Patient Department (OPD) services in Government Medical College & Hospital, Jammu have been suspended for the time being. However, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Jammu is least bothered towards the looming threat of COVID-19 as it is still continuing with the process of arranging tests of the aspirants seeking Learner's Driving Licence. The aspirants on the scheduled dates are flocking the RTO, Jammu in large numbers and while verification of documents before appearing for the mandatory test they could be seen jostling with each other in front of the designated counters. In doing so they forget to follow the SOPs related to COVID-19 especially maintaining a safe distance. "The slot booking and subsequent test for Learner's Licence seekers should be deferred for some time as the present situation arising out of surge in COVID cases is not conducive for the same as crowding any place is an open invitation for a catastrophe," said an applicant of Learner's Driving Licence. While another applicant of the same category said that if exams could be put on hold or cancelled why these tests can’t be deferred till the current corona wave subsides. "It can delay the process for a few weeks but nothing is more important than the lives of the applicants. Slot bookings and tests could be resumed after a while. It would be wise to give a break to the process rather than spreading the virus," he said. |
