Densely populated Jammu needs extra-care, caution health experts | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 27: The densely populated winter capital of Jammu needs more focus of the government towards fighting the Covid19 second wave, the medical health experts have cautioned. Talking to Early Times, some senior medicos said “given the densely populated topography of Jammu where residential colonies have houses built next to each other with little or no space in between, the situation of the Covid19 needs to be seen in line with cities of Delhi and Mumbai.” Explaining the point, the medicos, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, the droplets of the infection remain hanging in air for around two to eight hours. “In open space where houses are at considerable distance from each other the chances of getting infected are far less but when the houses are next to each other, the infection spreads fast as happened in congested cities like Delhi and Mumbai,” the medicos said. They said “ideally the people should ensure wearing three-layer face masks so that even if the infection droplets are in the air, it doesn’t affect them much.” On the part of the government, they said the government should keep more of resources on the disposal of Jammu for the coming months. “The trend suggests that Jammu will witness more of the cases in the coming weeks because it’s also the main railhead for the Union Territory and thus the bed facility needs to be augmented as also the oxygen facility,” the medico said. He said unlike the summer capital of Srinagar, Jammu district is yet to have any functional superspeciality like SKIMS Soura. “Srinagar got SKIMS Soura in 1980s but Jammu district is yet to see any such specialized facility and thus government must now show concern towards the neglected winter capital,” the medico said. It is pertinent to mention that India has witnessed world’s biggest ever spike of Covid19 cases in the recent past. While the number of cases testing positive per day has crossed the three lakh mark, health experts apprehend the situation turning even hostile in the coming weeks. “Jammu needs to be extra cautious,” the heath experts said. |
