Open violation of social distancing at DH Udhampur during COVID vaccination | | | ASHWANI SHARMA
EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, Apr 27: Though the COVID vaccination process is going on in full swing at District Hospital Udhampur amid fear of fresh surge in positive cases and further spread of the pandemic but despite the looming danger none visiting the health institution is bothered to follow the social distancing norm, one of the basics to control multiplication of the infection. A group of about 50 people were seen at the hospital herded together waiting for their turn to get the jab for COVID-19. “I am waiting for the last one hour for my father’s turn to get him vaccinated,” Arun Kumar, a student, said. When asked why he can’t keep distance from others while waiting for his father’s turn to get the jab, Arun said that there is no proper system at the hospital as the visitors are not listed. “If I keep distance, someone else may move ahead and I will have to wait more,” he said. An old woman standing nearby among the waiting crowd of people when asked by this reporter to maintain social distancing, said bitterly, “It’s none of your business.” While many others also started to make hue and cry when requested to keep distance as that was for their own benefit. “We have told these people a lot of times to maintain social distancing while waiting for their turn to get the jab but they are very careless and pay no heed to our instructions,” Dr Vijay Raina, Medical Superintendent at the hospital, said. “About 600 people daily get COVID jab in this hospital. We have limited man power, who work continuously and perform their duties diligently. At times the public remain non-cooperative which is a matter of grave concern due to which hospital seek the help of police to man the crowd as we are facing scarcity of staff,” he added. |
