4/29/2021 10:56:35 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 29: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has produced a chargesheet in the court of Special Judge Anti Corruption, Anantnag against then Zonal Educational Officer (ZEO) Qazigund Imtiyaz Ahmad and then Senior Assistant (SA) Sulinder Singh in a trap case. A spokesman of the ACB said on Thursday that a case was registered by Police Station (PS) ACB south Kashmir after a written complaint was received from one Ghulam Mohammad Wani, resident of Narupora Kokernag that he has executed two works—Wanpora Kewa boundary wall and BRC boundary wal at Qazigund—alloted by the ZEO Qazigund.
He said both the works were completed and subsequently, bills were submitted to ZEO Qazigund.
The amount of both the bills was not released by the ZEO who was demanding Rs 5000 as bribe from him which was paid by Wani to ZEO.
However, he alleged in the complaint that after taking the bribe of Rs 5000 by ZEO, the amount for construction of BRC boundary wall amounting to Rs 73,600 was released in his favour.
But, he said, for the release of second payment, the ZEO again demanded Rs 5000 from the contractor and asked him to handover the bribe money to the SA of ZEO office Qazigund, Sulinder Singh. ZEO said payment will be released only after paying the bribe money, he said. Accordingly the contrator approached P/S ACB along with bribe money of Rs 5000 for taking necessary action against the ZEO Qazigund, and Clerk. Spokesman said on the receipt of the complaint a case FIR No. 03/2019 U/S 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2), 4-A of the P.C, Act, Samvat, 2006 and Section 120-B RPC, was registered in P/S ACB South Kashmir. A trap team was constituted and the accused clerk was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the tainted money of Rs 5000 on behalf of the co-accused ZEO. During the course of investigation it was found that the money due for release to the complainant was available in account of the ZEO. It was not released for the bribe to be paid through the clerk.
Accordingly, the ZEO was also arrested, spokesman said adding after obtaining sanction from the Government chargesheet was presented in Court.
The case is next listed for 25-5-2021, he said.
