Jammu, Apr 29: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta has lauded the role of Army in volunteering proactive participation in the battle against COVID-19 pandemic at ground level.
In a statement issued today, Kavinder Gupta said that Indian Army is undoubtedly the champion of war and peace as it has always stood up to the occasion every time whether it is the challenge on borders or that during calamities like the ongoing pandemic crisis.
Appreciating the Army Chief General Naravane for decision to plunge into the battle against Coronavirus to mitigate the sufferings of the people across the nation, the senior BJP leader said that the efforts of the army will go a long way in overcoming the crisis in the shortest possible time.
Kavinder Gupta informed that Gen Naravane has conveyed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Army is opening up its hospitals for civilians wherever possible and the citizens can approach their nearest army hospitals.
He also informed that the Army is setting up temporary hospitals in various parts of the country besides providing the services of medical staff of the force to various state governments to deal with Covid crisis.
The former Dy CM also referred to the services provided by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) which has built 1000 bedded temporary COVID hospitals across the country in a short span of 12 days.
He said that the construction of two 500-bedded hospitals in J&K by DRDO will greatly reinforce medical infrastructure for dedicated COVID care in this Union Territory.
Kavinder Gupta said that the security forces deserve full appreciation for always standing with the common masses in the hour of crisis.
He recalled how in 2014 when Kashmir faced heavy floods, army came forward and saved the lives of people of the Valley besides providing them food and medical aid.
