COVID refuses to relent
5/5/2021 11:14:58 PM
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been continuously monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He is taking the feedback from the ground on the regular basis.
He has directed the officers to increase Covid dedicated beds with oxygen cylinders support in peripheral hospitals. The situation in cities and towns is grim and there is a possibility about the virus reaching the rural areas also. In order to prevent the community spread in villages more precautions need to be taken. The pandemic is raging and it has taken a heavy toll on everyone. The LG asking officers to keep an eye on rural areas and put the facilities in place well in advance can help in tackling the crisis that may emerge.
The Corona curfew has been extended in many areas and people are being asked to stay within their homes as the virus is everywhere. The only way to keep COVID-19 at bay is to stop its movement. People need to bear in mind that it cannot stop moving till they restrict their movement.
People in Jammu are exercising restraint but in Kashmir people seem least interested in following the SOPs. Traffic snarls are being witnessed at the busy junctions in the Valley. Hospitals in Kashmir and Jammu regions are full and the doctors seem helpless.
The medicos have declared an emergency like situation as they are finding it hard to provide the ICU beds to the critical patients. The government is trying its best to make all the facilities available but the situation seems to have taken an ugly turn. Thousands of patients are under home isolation and they are trying to fight the COVID-19 from their homes.
The officials are regularly monitoring the status of Oxygen generation and supply against the required demand, bed occupancy in hospitals, status of vaccination drive under different age groups, containment activity in Jammu and Kashmir divisions along with district-wise Covid-19 cases.
The complete mechanism has been put in place but the biggest problem which J&K is facing is that the COVID-19 curve is rising rapidly and there seems no possibility about the curve flattening soon.
Business activities have come to a halt. Schools and higher education institutions are closed. Everything has stopped and it appears that life has taken a massive hit and it would take many months for normalcy to return.
The government is making all the possible efforts to intensify the COVID-19 vaccination drive as the experts are of the opinion that inoculation can only lead to people developing herd immunity. Fingers are crossed amidst helplessness.
