SRINAGAR, May 5: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reported a record number of new COVID-19 cases and deaths in the past 24 hours. While 4,716 new cases were reported 52 people lost their lives to the virus in the union territory during the same time period. Jammu district reported 17 fresh Corona Virus deaths followed by Srinagar district with 15 deaths, Samba district five deaths, Baramulla district four deaths, Pulwama district three deaths, Rajouri and Poonch districts two deaths each and Kathua, Kishtwar, Anantnag & Kulgam districts one death each. Srinagar district reported 1125 new cases followed by Jammu district 598 cases, Baramulla district 511 cases, Pulwama district 362 cases, Budgam district 277 cases, Anantnag district 255 cases, Kulgam district 238 cases, Rajouri district 175 cases, Udhampur district 165 cases, Kathua district 158 cases, Kupwara district 148 cases, Samba district 124 cases, Ganderbal district 108 cases, Ramban district 102 cases, Bandipora district 96 cases, Poonch district 92 cases, Shopian district 78 cases, Kishtwar district 39 cases, Reasi district 37 cases and Doda district 28 cases. The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 4,716 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 1,518 from Jammu division and 3,198 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1, 96,585. Also 52 COVID-19 deaths have been reported, 28 from Jammu division and 24 from Kashmir division. Moreover, 2,338 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 544 from Jammu division and 1,794 from Kashmir division. Out of 1, 96,585 positive cases, 39,628 are active positive, 1, 54,447 have recovered and 2,510 have died; 1,034 in Jammu division and 1,476 in Kashmir division. Out of 74, 60,537 test results available, 72, 63,952 samples have tested negative till date. Till date 18, 57,573 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 91,290 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 39,628 in isolation and 1, 18,770 in home surveillance. Besides, 16, 05,375 persons have completed their surveillance period. The bulletin said that Srinagar has 49,220 positive cases, 10,726 active positive, 37,914 recovered, 580 deaths; Baramulla has 14,631 positive cases, 3,194 active positive, 11,230 recovered, 207 deaths; Budgam has 11,978 positive cases, 2,205 active positive, 9,638 recovered, 135 deaths; Anantnag has 8,324 positive cases, 2,291 active positive, 5,921 recovered, 112 deaths; Pulwama has 8,230 positive cases, 1,917 active positive, 6,204 recovered, 109 deaths. “Kupwara has 7,619 positive cases, 1,233 active positive, 6,282 recovered, 104 deaths; Bandipora has 5,890 positive cases, 729 active positive, 5,096 recovered, 65 deaths; Ganderbal has 5,794 positive cases, 655 active positive, 5,087 recovered, 52 deaths; Kulgam has 5,332 positive cases, 1,994 active positive, 3,268 recovered, 70 deaths and Shopian has 3,387 positive cases, 608 active positive, 2,737 recovered, 42 deaths,” reads the bulletin. The bulletin said that Jammu has 37,389 positive cases, 7,026 active positive, 29,795 recovered, 568 deaths; Udhampur has 6,769 positive cases, 1,062 active positive, 5,638 recovered, 69 deaths; Rajouri has 5,626 positive cases, 1,569 active positive, 3,979 recovered, 78 deaths; Kathua has 5,176 positive cases, 880 active positive, 4,229 recovered, 67 deaths; Samba has 4,276 positive cases, 1,344 active positive, 2,867 recovered, 65 deaths. “Doda has 3,992 positive cases, 375 active positive, 3,547 recovered, 70 deaths; Reasi has 3,721 positive cases, 631 active positive, 3,070 recovered, 20 deaths; Poonch has 3,259 positive cases, 609 active positive, 2,606 recovered, 44 deaths; Kishtwar has 3,057 positive cases, 139 active positive, 2,895 recovered, 23 deaths and Ramban has 2,915 positive cases, 441 active positive, 2,444 recovered, 30 deaths,” reads the bulletin. Out of 1, 96,585 positive cases, 20,031 have been reported as travelers. The bulletin has informed the people that the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least two meters from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
