Jammu, May 5: Former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta, while raising serious concern over the rising number of deaths on account of COVID-19 in Jammu region, has appealed to the government to focus seriously on this development during the past few days. He also expressed anguish over the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu according to which routine surgeries in all hospitals both government and private across Jammu division have been deferred.
In a statement issued to the media here today, Kavinder Gupta said, the graph of Covid deaths showing a sharp rise during the last few days in Jammu region is a matter of serious concern and needs to be addressed at the earliest. While the Union Territory administration is working 24X7 in the unprecedented battle against Coronavirus, but the latest developments go to prove that undoubtedly much more needs to be done. He added that the government must conduct a meticulous analysis of the situation and initiate additional measures adequate enough to overcome the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the former Deputy Chief Minister expressed utmost concern over the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu that no routine surgeries will be performed in GMC and other associated hospitals till further orders besides asking the District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers to keep track on the implementation of this order in all districts of Jammu Division.
Terming this order as a bolt from the blue in the ongoing crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic, the senior BJP leader asked the Divisional Commissioner to make clear as to where will the people suffering from severe ailments and requiring immediate surgery go. He castigated the administration for issuing such orders that he claimed only multiply the hardships of the common people instead of providing any relief.
Kavinder Gupta cautioned the general public against the rapidly increasing number of Covid cases in Jammu region. He appealed to one and all to be more than strict in following the SOPs issued by the government from time to time in this regard. He conveyed to them that in today’s scenario the measures taken by the government in battle against Covid will go in vain unless people proactively participate in this war by sacredly following the Covid norms and getting themselves vaccinated at the earliest.
