Vaccine Drive: SMC deputes mobile vans in 36 wards; JMC yet to start campaign
5/7/2021 12:34:31 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 6: Taking a lead in accelerating vaccination drive, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has pressed into service mobile vans in 36 municipal wards for inoculation.
Not only mobile vans have been operating in 36 wards of SMC but authorities have also set up vaccination centres in different areas so as to achieve the target. During a review meeting with Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Wednesday Commissioner of the SMC, Athar Amir Khan informed the meeting that mobile vans are operating in 36 municipal wards, which will be increased in coming days.
In order to reach out to the people with vaccination, the Lt Governor has instructed for starting vaccination in each municipal ward through dedicated teams. He further called for the deployment of more mobile vans for vaccination purposes. Although mobile vans are operating in SMC, no such decision has been taken by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) where people are finding it difficult to get the slot for vaccination. Inoculation for above 45 years of age group is going smoothly but those who fall in the age group of 18 to 45 years are facing hardship in getting slots in Jammu. During the second wave of the deadly virus, JMC has not taken any concrete steps to check the spread of the virus. Residents of Jammu are demanding sanitization but authorities have so far done nothing. People are demanding that like Srinagar city, mobile vans to approach people for vaccination should be developed in Jammu city so as to cover the maximum population but authorities have yet not made any such proposal.
